What they make

Velvet Ice Cream was founded in 1914 by Joseph Dager, a Lebanese immigrant, in the basement of a confectionery in Utica, Ohio. It remains family-owned and is now in its fourth generation. Since 1960 it has operated from Ye Olde Mill, a building from 1817 just south of the original site, which also holds an ice cream museum, a visitor center and a working ice cream shop. The company makes ice cream with Midwest cream, plus sherbets, and holds an Ice Cream Festival at the mill each Memorial Day.

Swiss cheese country, in the middle of Ohio

Holmes County Baby Swiss

Holmes County is Ohio's Swiss cheese heartland. Guggisberg Cheese, founded in 1950 by Swiss immigrants Alfred and Margaret Guggisberg, pioneered Baby Swiss there in the 1960s.

Baby Swiss is a Swiss-style cheese developed there. The area once supported 40 to 50 cheese makers and still has a handful, drawing milk from nearby farms, many of them Amish.
